We've just created a small patch for TeamSpeak servers running on Linux. This patch provides a modified SQLite library which enables the Message-Digest Algorithm 5 (MD5) one-way hashing algorithm to be used by the TeamSpeak 2 server.
Instead of storing plain text passwords in TeamSpeak's native SQLite database, the server will create a 128-bit hash value of the password to ensure a higher level of security. This way, noone will be able to read your secret passwords from the database.
The package contains the modified SQLite library, modified SQL command files and a conversion script to update the passwords of existing user accounts.

In their latest blog post regarding TeamSpeak 3's development status, the developers have revealed some exciting information about TeamSpeak 3's core architecture. The upcoming version of TeamSpeak is being developed in two layers, the core part called ClientLib and the interface part called ClientUI. The ClientUI uses the ClientLib to interact with the TeamSpeak 3 server and is responsible for the user interface, as it shows all the information retrieved from the ClientLib.
According to the developers, the ClientLib can be used to integrate TeamSpeak's functions into a totally different applications (i.e. online games), which is something they're really looking forward to.
In addition, the posting contains information about TeamSpeak 3's improved Key Bindings and the new Bookmarks feature.
If you're interested in reading the whole posting, please visit TeamSpeak's official developer blog page on the official TeamSpeak website.

Yesterday, the official TeamSpeak End User License Agreement (EULA) has been updated. Besides some smaller updates, the new EULA introduces radical changes to the Non-Profit Organization (NPO) license.
A NPO is no longer allowed to host more than 5000 slots, regardless the number of virtual TeamSpeak servers or instances. Any NPO hosting more than 5000 slots is ordered to shutdown any extra servers no later than January 1st, 2007.
In addition, any commercial entity that is registering to become an Authorized TeamSpeak Host Provider (ATHP) has to pay a 10 US Dollar setup fee.
If you have any questions regarding the new EULA or the updates to the NPO licensing program, please contact TeamSpeak's official sales, licensing and billing provider Triton CI & Associates.
Update - 5 December 2006:
Triton CI & Associates has modified the EULA again. Non-commercial entities without a NPO license are now allowed to setup virtual TeamSpeak servers with more than 100 slots, but the maximum number of servers and slot counts configured must not exceed any one of the following configurations:
- 10 virtual TeamSpeak servers with 100 slots each
- 4 virtual TeamSpeak servers with 250 slots each
- 2 virtual TeamSpeak servers with 500 slots each
- 1 virtual TeamSpeak server with 1000 slots
Each of the above configurations still yields 1000 slots total. This way, large guilds or clans with more than 100 members are able to setup their own free TeamSpeak servers.

Thanks to package maintainer Adam Cécile the TeamSpeak 2 Client is present in the Debian repositories. Now, you can find packages including the latest version of the Linux client in the testing (etch) and unstable (sid) branches for architecture i386 as well as amd64 with 32-bit emulation. Debian users should now be able to install the package named teamspeak-client via aptitude or apt.
As TeamSpeak does not comply to the DFSG you should make sure to have Debians non-free archive in your package sources. If you have a look at the list of pending packages there will probably also be a package called teamspeak-server so we can hope to have an easy and comfortable installation for the server in the near future as well.

Due to various problems with our TS2PerlMod, we've decided to update the script to version 0.9.15. This is just a small update, which ensures that critical errors can be analyzed by checking the scripts logfiles after the TS2PerlMod has stopped working unexpectedly.
We've also added a seperate startscript to the download package, that allows you to start and stop multiple instances of the TS2PerlMod at once. Although its functionality has been tested, it is still highly experiamental. We'd appreciate your feedback and bug reports.
