TeamSpeak 2 Server 2.0.23.13 BETA Released
Published in TeamSpeak
Written by Sven 'ScP' Paulsen on Monday, 08 January 2007

After some intense testing sessions over the past few weeks, the TeamSpeak developers have officially released another updated TeamSpeak 2 server binary for Windows and Linux. The new release - version 2.0.23.13 - provides some very important bugfixes to improve TeamSpeak 2's security and liability.

The most important fix deals with the disturbing nullbyte exploit by removing the \0 character from all inputs given by a client. Furthermore, some TCP query bugs have been fixed and a memory leak problem from a previous version was resolved.

The new release can be found in our download area or on the official TeamSpeak website.

TeamSpeak 2 Banner Dispatcher Released
Published in Third Party Applications
Written by Steven 'Cyrus' Barth on Friday, 05 January 2007

We are proud to announce a new nifty tool for your TeamSpeak 2 servers written in entire PHP 5. The tool is called TeamSpeak 2 Banner Dispatcher and allows you to define multiple banners and multiple banner link targets for TeamSpeak 2 servers running in the same instance.

The dispatcher uses XML-files as data storage and provides a well-documented easy to use PHP 5 API for associating servers and banners. Of course you can also use any other programming language that supports DOM-XML manipulation for manipulating the association table.

The package contains the dispatcher class, example files and a README and is licensed under GNU General Public License.

Update - 7 January 2007

Version 0.3 has been released and adds database support using PDO. This has been tested with SQLite 3.x, but should work with other databases like MySQL too.

Published in TeamSpeak
Written by Steven 'Cyrus' Barth on Thursday, 04 January 2007

About two months ago, we announced the release of the TeamSpeak 2 client in the Debian package repositories. These packages got recently merged into the Ubuntu repositories as well. Ubuntu users can install the package teamspeak-client via aptitude from the multiverse repository of branch feisty.

We also mentioned a package teamspeak-server that is now available in the Debian non-free repositories of branch unstable. This package will install the server seamlessly into your running Debian environment while it also provides and automatically installs SysVinit-Scripts that will start / stop the server automatically under a dedicated user called teamspeak-server at bootup, restart or shutdown.

SQLite MD5 Patch for TeamSpeak 2 Servers Released
Published in Third Party Applications
Written by Steven 'Cyrus' Barth on Thursday, 21 December 2006

We've just created a small patch for TeamSpeak servers running on Linux. This patch provides a modified SQLite library which enables the Message-Digest Algorithm 5 (MD5) one-way hashing algorithm to be used by the TeamSpeak 2 server.

Instead of storing plain text passwords in TeamSpeak's native SQLite database, the server will create a 128-bit hash value of the password to ensure a higher level of security. This way, noone will be able to read your secret passwords from the database.

The package contains the modified SQLite library, modified SQL command files and a conversion script to update the passwords of existing user accounts.

Developer Blog reveals Details about TeamSpeak 3's Core Architecture
Published in TeamSpeak
Written by Sven 'ScP' Paulsen on Friday, 15 December 2006

In their latest blog post regarding TeamSpeak 3's development status, the developers have revealed some exciting information about TeamSpeak 3's core architecture. The upcoming version of TeamSpeak is being developed in two layers, the core part called ClientLib and the interface part called ClientUI. The ClientUI uses the ClientLib to interact with the TeamSpeak 3 server and is responsible for the user interface, as it shows all the information retrieved from the ClientLib.

According to the developers, the ClientLib can be used to integrate TeamSpeak's functions into a totally different applications (i.e. online games), which is something they're really looking forward to.

In addition, the posting contains information about TeamSpeak 3's improved Key Bindings and the new Bookmarks feature.

If you're interested in reading the whole posting, please visit TeamSpeak's official developer blog page on the official TeamSpeak website.

TeamSpeak End User License Agreement Updated
Published in TeamSpeak
Written by Sven 'ScP' Paulsen on Thursday, 30 November 2006

Yesterday, the official TeamSpeak End User License Agreement (EULA) has been updated. Besides some smaller updates, the new EULA introduces radical changes to the Non-Profit Organization (NPO) license.

A NPO is no longer allowed to host more than 5000 slots, regardless the number of virtual TeamSpeak servers or instances. Any NPO hosting more than 5000 slots is ordered to shutdown any extra servers no later than January 1st, 2007.

In addition, any commercial entity that is registering to become an Authorized TeamSpeak Host Provider (ATHP) has to pay a 10 US Dollar setup fee.

If you have any questions regarding the new EULA or the updates to the NPO licensing program, please contact TeamSpeak's official sales, licensing and billing provider Triton CI & Associates.

Update - 5 December 2006:

Triton CI & Associates has modified the EULA again. Non-commercial entities without a NPO license are now allowed to setup virtual TeamSpeak servers with more than 100 slots, but the maximum number of servers and slot counts configured must not exceed any one of the following configurations:

  • 10 virtual TeamSpeak servers with 100 slots each
  • 4 virtual TeamSpeak servers with 250 slots each
  • 2 virtual TeamSpeak servers with 500 slots each
  • 1 virtual TeamSpeak server with 1000 slots

Each of the above configurations still yields 1000 slots total. This way, large guilds or clans with more than 100 members are able to setup their own free TeamSpeak servers.
